Norma Buist Swimming Gala

The Norma Buist Swimming Gala is aimed at children and young
people up to, and including, the age of 18 with any disability who can
swim at least 25 metres of a recognised stroke unaided.  You do not need to be a member of a swim club, It gives the
opportunity for these young people to compete with their peers in an
inclusive environment within a fair playing field. It gives them the
opportunity to grow and develop at their own pace and ability and
makes success an achievable. goal.
The system of time banding used is widely adopted in disability sport
across Scotland and is recognised as encouraging success,
enjoyment, and fun, while taking steps towards a competitive
pathway if qualifying times are achied and if wanted.
This gala is the qualifier for the National Learning Disability Junior
Championships held in Scotland each year and also supports a
pathway to the National Junior Championships for those with
physical and /or sensory impairments held in Grangemouth. Selection
for these National Championships are based on qualifying times from
our Grampian Disability Sport Norma Buist and Mary Duncan Galas as
set by Scottish Disability Sport.
