A single leg amputee scuba dives in a swimming pool

An Aberdeen-based scuba diving club has successfully pioneered an explicit approach to inclusion.

Aberdeen BSAC approached Scottish Disability Sport to ask about the possibility of trialing scuba diving with adult amputees. After some discussion with Finding Your Feet – Amputee Charity, it became apparent that this would be an excellent activity for the more adventurous participants. Thereafter, club coaches attended UK Disability Inclusion Training and met with amputees, Lee and Therese, who then went on to try diving with the club.

The club has since held a very successful fundraiser and is now offering Diving for All – an inclusive programme that welcomes adults with particular types of disabilities.

Well done to Paul and Jim of Aberdeen BSAC for being so proactive, welcoming and inclusive of our participants!
